Okay, you asked for it... this one's not as fun as the last, though...

About six years ago I was administratively (against my will)transferred to a new Unit that was started as a result of a grant. I didn't want to go there but recognized it as something that, if successful, could be good for my career.

However...

The Supervisor of the Unit was inexperienced and easily threatened. And though the Administration of the time was well aware of her as a serious potential liability, they did nothing. And I was busting my ass trying to make the Unit safe for all the other Officers (who were all new because NO ONE seasoned wanted the job) and making sure they did their job without incurring liability for the Department and sometimes that meant going against what the Supervisor had told them to do.

Needless to say, she didn't like me making her look bad, even though I tried very hard not to. And she made my life hell. For a year. That's not even an exaggeration... by the time the Adminstration decided to let me transfer back to my old Unit, I was in the process of filing a civil suit against the County of San Diego.

I dreaded going to work in the morning. I cried in the shower every single day. My children drew pictures of my Supervisor and glued them to my heavy bag in the garage and every night I pummeled that bag until I was sobbing and exhausted.

And every morning on the way to work I listened to two songs over and over and over: One Step Closer (Linkin Park) and Cocky (Kid Rock).

It helped. And by the time I got to work, I was ready to do it again, at least for that one day.

Bastards!

Remind me of this post if I ever make you mad. I don't want to piss someone off that's into pummeling.

So I guess I need to add Kid Rock *almost gags* to your name and my mp3 player.

Kind of cool when Kryptonite just popped up on the ipod huh? I bet you smiled? :)

Wow you put some of my suggestions on your MP3? That has totally touched me! LOL.

Do you like Pink? I saw her live in Dec 06 at Wemberly Arena , LONDON. She was AMAZING , such a great performer. I am as straight as they come - but she is sooooo sexy, her voice, her passion, everything!

I know it sounds odd - but in the US you prob have not heard of Mika yet? I just adore that Grace Kelly song!!!! It's awesome!

Daughter: after "Place for my Head," I think "One Step Closer" is the best damn Linkin Park song, Period.

Lindsay: Pink is cool, but Mika is AWESOME!!! Further enhancing his awesomeness: he was born in Beirut (like me) in August (like me) in 1983 (like me) at the same HOSPITAL!

And he's hawt.

AND his music is excellent.

Moving right along, as far as I'm concerned, mister Caveman, "Ramble on" is fine for me. I see you like the Beatles. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is amazing. Now THAT song has a great story behind it.

Touching, indeed!! :-)

Hey, don't add Kid if you hate his stuff. That's no fun!! besudes, you already got the story so you don't need him. ;-)

I DID smile when "Kryptonite" came on.. More so because you had posted your pics and I could actually associate a face. It was cool. :-)

Lindsay, I totally agree about Pink. She's hot in every way!!

Gah. Let me do this again...

Mine isn't by Michael Andrews.
It's a "Mad World" by Gary Jules.
Close but no cigar.
:)

Of course now you will have to get
"Plush" from the album "Core" by Stone Temple Pilots. Amazing!

Just so ya know, Michael Andrews put together the scores for Donny Darko.Gary Jules sang the "Tears For Fears" 1983 song "Mad World"
A collaboration I'd say.

Check out the 2006 version of "Mad World" by Tears For Fears, it's a little strange.

Lindsay: don't go telling Spiller5 I touched you, LOL. Speaking of Spiller5 what's his song?

I'm trying not to judge the songs (except for daughter, Journey, Really!) I want the songs to pop up now and then and surprise me when I'm not expecting it.That's the smile part. When it does come up I listen to it to see why my blogger friend might like it or identify with it. It's been very cool for me and I've actually listen to a lot of music I wouldn't normally hear. Surprisingly, I like most of it and more than I care to admit.

Marianita: I like the mister caveman talk, keep it up, makes me feel manly *says with a Barry White voice* :) Love the Beatles and know both stories behind the Lucy song.

Jen: I finally got it right thanks to harbinger. It only took me a few months :) but that song is you.

harbinger: I'll check out the new tunes, thanks. What time zone do you live in?

Y'all's knowledge of music is amazing. Every song seems to match the person who picked it. I hope everyone has taken the time to download some and listen, it's worth it :)

Ha ha! Don't worry he is cool! I wil get him to comment on your blog.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has something to do with the drugs that the beatles may or may not have been on (LSD)

My song for your MP3 player would have to be Reef - Place your Hands. Its a real crowd pleaser and gets everyone singing!

David said...

Going to download it now spiller5, Thanks.

Marianita said...

Huh? TWO stories behind the song? Pray tell!

BTW, Donnie Darko is a great movie, and Mad World is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head forever (in a good way).

So, is my Paleolithic Pal going to star in a new, funny commercial tonight?

I hope so! Those commercials crack me up!

"Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the rock this morning." LOL!

Daughter of Night said...

Oh Marianita, another Donnie Darko fan!! Just watched it again yesterday.... :-) A "must see" for anyone "quantum minded"... Ha!!!

The first story is of course that John's son had drawn a picture at school and when John asked him what it was he saidit was his friend Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

The Beatles always denied that it stood for LSD but if you listen to the lyrics there is no doubt what the song is about. John was so high on LSD when the song was recorded that George Martian took him up on the roof to try and find out what was wrong with him and Paul had to drive him home.

Listen to the song which story do you believe?

And daughter, I caught that hint :)
