Fuzzy Wookie Math

I was looking for something to watch on TV last night and saw 'Star Wars IV' listed on channel 241. Much to my amazement it wasn't the fourth one at all. It was 'Star Wars.' The original 1977 one. Screw around with 'Smokey and the Bandit' all you want but don't ass around with Star Wars Mr. TV Man. I don't like it.

IV indeed! Like by using roman numerals we wouldn't notice. PA-LEASE!

But it IS Episode IV!! I don't understand???? The 1977 "Star Wars" is actually Episode IV of a nine-part epic. Watch the opening again and it even says "Chapter IV" or "Episode IV" or something like that just before the long text explanation of what's going on in the galaxy.

I guess you just want them to refer to it like they used to - jsut "Star Wars." Even though it really IS the fourth of the series (even though it came out first... sort of like the victims in "Silence of the Lambs"). :-)

Daughter, again your stealth comment eluded my email. I must check my own blog more often.

To the ten year old little boy, who saw that movie in the theater, bought all the action figures, and tried to 'use the force' to move objects, it will always be 'Star Wars'. Much the same way Cher needs no last name, it just confuses things. Yes, it may have been the fourth in a series of books or something but it was the first movie I had ever seen that made me feel like people would live in space one day.

If you simply say Star Wars this the one I'm thinking of. If you want me to think of another one you better put the rest of the title with it. Like 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.'

I am nothing if not surreptitious. :-)

I understand, RT. I felt that way about Star Wars too. I guess I just don't care what they call it as long as I get to watch. :-)
